A digital story combines text and images with narration in the student’s own voice to form a short digital movie. Digital Storyteller is a web-based tool that offers teachers and students frictionless access to digital images and materials that enable them to construct compelling personal narratives. Digital Storyteller was developed as an initiative of Primary Access.
I can definitely see myself using this in my class. Most importantly I can see the student excitement to be using such a tool as this.
There are 7 steps that need to be included in your digital storytelling in order to make a great story:
- point of view- What are you trying to convey to your audience
- dramatic question - This is what is going to keep engaged
- emotional content -audience has to identify with the issue
- your voice- although many people dont like to use their voice.. Voice is very powerful
- sound track- Music help set the mood or add elements to your story
- ecomony- less is best. Use just enough to get the story across
- pacing - Keep rhythm at a nice level..not to boring or slow and not to fast or overwhelming
There are three types of digital stories, new media practices, voice thread, and slide share.
I really enjoyed the voice thread that I used last week. If you haven't view my last entry, please do. I still have a long ways to go in mastering the tool. But I am proud of the work. I think digital storytelling is a effective and totally awesome tool for teachers. I found a great website with an awesome answer and examples of how digital storytelling can be used as an effective tool for teachers. Here are some reasons digital storytelling an effective tool for students?
research skills are enhanced interpersonal skills
writitng skills improved problems skills activated
technology introduced assessment skills and interview skills
presentation skills sharpened
Types of student literacies digital storytelling address I believe is digital, global, technoogy, visual and information literacy. Some full complements of literacy skills student develop using digital storytelling is voices, images, and audio, but to me the most important is reflection. The student will be able to review and reflection on his digital story.
Some challenges and resources to meet in creating your own digital story? (...or your students') I would have to say the biggest challenge student face in creating a digital story would have to be not having access to the materials and technology needed to complete the task outside of
I have included a copy of the lesson that I would love to try with digital storytelling. I have also included a template for a digital storytelling storyboard that I plan to use.

Hey Ms.Mary.You did a great job tieing digital story-telling to your lesson plan. Your lesson plan was really detailed and gave a step by step plan to complete the lesson. Your Teks followed your lesson plan very well too.You also had great transitions in your lesson plan, which is very important to be aware of. I enjoyed the digital story-telling website that you linked because it had some great information on it. I definently agree with you that the old typical classroom scene it out! You did a good job!
