CHRGIS demonstration

Today we had a guest speaker; Ms Deidre Williams;Research Spec III for the CHRGIS
GIS Database. She showed us the GIS Database for Restored Habitat on Corpus Christi Bay. She showed us an interesting webs This website has a link just for kids that is under construction, but is going to be wonderful for student of all ages to use. Ms. Williams is part of the team that is going to help children understand changes in our environment and geology. Geology the study of earth is a wonderful thing to be studied. She is allowing our students to understand better. And she is giving teacher a great tool because she is giving our student an interactive visualize aid. This website changes as data changes and is collected. Students are able to go on and see how the lands, inland, water, channels, how the environment has changed. I think this is a great tool because student can look as see the past. It is one thing to talk about it, but to be able to give student a visualize aid to go along with the lesson is great. Ms. Williams said this site is for all ages. I could see any grade level using this tool, but I could definitely see how a 5th grader would love this site.

EXTRA EXTRA Look what I learned

Because of the new technology I have learned in this class I was able to make my reading presentation even better. Learning all these new tools will definetly help me in the future. It helped me this week. I had a power point presentation to do for reading. In this presentation I was able to embed this video ,,,,That I shot, and downloaded to movie maker and uploaded to my blogger. Sounds like a lot of work...IT IS and I learned it all...this semester!!!!!!!!!!!!

Voice Thread Success

This was a project that I am very proud of. I have learned so much in this class. I know that with all these tools I have learned this semester I will be a better educator. Technology is so important. Teachers have know how to use a vast amount of technology if they want to keep their students interested .

Children in 21st century need more than just copying and repeating. Our children need exposure and ideas. Today I feel I have some been exposed to enough that will give me great tools and ideas to use in my class. MB was my first student, MB was my first experience with a child and technology....And it was great, for me. Here is our work ...Voice Thread Success!!!
With Gods help it is the first of many voice threads, bloggers, and technology usage for me

The Student and Me

Today I met the student I will be working with at CCMS. He is a first grader who loves to play the cello. He is very fluent in spanish so I know that our voice thread is going to be great.

The experience I had with my student was wonderful. He is intelligent and very interested in seeing this project. He was fimilar with using the computer, so things got done pretty quickly. Although I used his P.E time for this. :( I could see how this project if I was doing it with 15-20 1st graders would be time consuming, especially if they had no experience with the technology. Although these days it's hard to find a child who has never sat in front of a computer.

He said that his mom used the computer alot, so he knows how to do it. I let him create his own userid and password. We opened a google account, which he said was neat. We also opened a blogger account which he titled; Letter Sounds in Spanish . He made his first entry before I left that day. I told him Crystal would be coming to film him. He said that was going to be okay she could come. I know he was love see himself on the Voice thread..Can't wait.

I had a great experience because he was eager to learn, but at the same time eager to finish and go play outside. I totally understand, what first grader likes to miss P.E.

Today I toured into my possible future

The secret of good teaching is to regard the children's intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination. Our aim therefore is not merely to make the children understand, and still less to force them to memorize, but so to touch their imagination as to enthuse them to their innermost core..."
-Dr. Maria Montessori

Now that I have visited the Corpus Christi Montessori school, I can see how Dr. Maria Montessori thought school should be taught. It is a wonderful way for students to learn, the environment was so calm and accepting.
CCMS is a dual-language charter school that is funded solely by the state.

They say first impression last a lifetime. Well... I think that's true, especially this case. This is an experience that keeps playing back in my head. Could I be a teacher here? Answer: YES. I could see myself there definitely. I loved everything about it. Crystal also loved her visit to this school. I think she found her calling. Take a look at her blog on this experience.

This is an experience that I might want to venture a little further than this class takes me. Like maybe doing my field based observation here. I truly enjoyed the atmosphere. The two doves when you first walk to me symbolized the peace and love this school is all about. The tour of the school was a great inspiration, an eye-opening experience to an alternate way of teaching. I loved it. The classroom didn't feel like classroom, it was like a room in a home you had just walked into. It was great, children were sitting on individual mats doing their work. They helped each. The classes were not arranged by strict guidelines as 1st grade in one room, 2nd grade in other, but were in groups, (1-3rd and 4th-6th). It was like a family helping each other.
Crystal and I are going to have a great experience, working with our selected student.

Change of Plans

Last blog I talked about doing a Greek Mythology Project.....well that didn't workout.
I never was able to make connect with the parent or the student..... things happen.
As a parent of four young girls, I totally understand how someone can be just too busy or overwhelmed. These days it hard trying to keep up and sign up for everything.

As a teacher I had to learn to roll with it, as Dr Elwood said.."You gotta think on your feet, what are you gonna do now?" WELL.... I decided to partner up with Crystal. I will know be doing a Spanish Voice Thread, instead of Mythology. I guess I am learning how to roll with it pretty fast.
